Less exotic and much closer to home, Europe still offers a huge number of opportunities and places to visit for the ardent backpacker.

There are certain advantages too. Within the EU you need nothing more than your passport and in many of those countries you can use just one currency. Working restrictions are also few and far between within the EU.

Travel facilities are convenient with many rail and bus passes available that allow travel between many countries. Most of these can be booked in the UK.

Camping is also cheap and convenient and you should be to arrange most of this before you leave home.
