17 November 2006 Students get travel insurance advice
Students and others planning on heading abroad for an extended period of time have been advised to purchase backpacker travel insurance to make sure they are covered for their trip.
USI Affinity subsidiary Travel Insurance Services (TIS) has listed what it views as the top reasons for holidaymakers to ensure they are covered on their travels and has included a special notice for those planning on living abroad for a few months or longer.
"Perhaps you're in college and you need student travel insurance for studies abroad," the company reports.
"Or you have a job opportunity or vacation home that takes you out of the country for a few months," it adds.
TIS recommends that those looking for gap year travel insurance or other policies aimed at students to make sure their plan includes 24-hour help to guarantee there are no concerns finding a doctor due to a language barrier.
Last summer, American Express Travel Insurance reported that the US, New Zealand and South America were the top destinations that over-30s wanted to visit if taking a gap break from their work.
