07 September 2006  Lonely Planet to release PSP travel guides
Travellers short of luggage space, like those packing backpacker travel insurance and a sense of adventure, will soon be able to take advantage of electronic travel guides on their portable consoles.

Lonely Planet will release six Passport to? cartridges this September for the PlayStation Portable (PSP), which will cover Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, Paris Prague and Rome respectively.

The carts offer a range of information including points of interest, and maps, together with audio tours, video content and the ability to build personalised itineraries.

Simon Julian, product manager at Lonely Planet, said: "Travellers today are looking for new ways to experience the places that they visit, guided by the opinions and expertise of authors who have an intimate knowledge of the destination.

"The new Passport to ? guides take the passion and knowledge of Lonely Planet?s author-researched information, and extend it to a new type of interactive guidebook, designed to meet the evolving needs of technology-savvy travellers."

Holidaymakers and backpackers have been urged by insurers to make sure they have adequate travel insurance for now-popular hi tech gadgets, such as the PSP and its new travel guides.
