11 November 2006 Holidaymakers to 'dance on the sand' in carnival project
A specialist in meaningful travel has offered UK travellers, including those with backpacker travel insurance, the opportunity to take part in the behind-the-scenes preparations for the world-renowned Rio Carnival.
Travellers are being invited by i-and-i to volunteer to join 50,000 participants who make the event possible, by designing and decorating floats and costumes for the parades.
Holidaymakers wanting to take part in the project as part of a longer trip can purchase gap year travel insurance and be involved with the project for up to 12 weeks
The company has billed the trip as an opportunity for those interested in the fashion industry as well as an opportunity to contribute to a "special" event.
Deirdre Bounds, founder of the company, said: "Think Rio and you'll probably think carnival, so what better way to experience this city than by getting involved with one of its biggest events?"
"Imagine being able to point to a float, a costume or a stage and say 'I did that!'"
Earlier this year, Bradford and Bingley noted an increasing number of 26-34 year olds taking extended breaks from work to gain respite from the stress of work, recommending that they take out backpacker travel insurance to cover them on their break.
