31 October 2006  Hawaii touted as adventure destination
Young travellers looking for adventure, such as those travelling with backpacker travel insurance, are being advised that the islands of Hawaii can be an attractive getaway destination.

Glad Travel, a global adventure travel website focused on the Hawaiian market, has claimed that a trip to Hawaii can be cheaper than other US destinations, such as trips to southern California or tours of a major cities.

The company claims that the lowering of price means that Hawaii can be considered as a suitable destination for students and backpackers, such as those with gap year travel insurance.

"Anitra Pickett, chief executive officer of Glad Travel, said: "Island hopping in Hawaii, exploring exotic beaches and eco-tourist activities should be way more appealing to a young adventure traveller than buying a standard package deal to Mexico or Florida."

She added that travellers could purchase a cheap trip to Hawaii by ignoring travel agent packages and negative reports about the costs of visiting the state.

Last summer, AXA Travel Insurance warned that one million Britons had reported injuries sustained on an activity-holiday in the past five years and advised holidaymakers to purchase cover, which would include backpacker travel insurance, for "peace of mind".
