22 November 2006 East Africa tops poll of safari adventures
Those with backpacker travel insurance looking to go on an African safari would make the best use of their money by heading to east Africa, a poll has revealed.
Research by online travel agent Africa Point revealed that 54 per cent of those surveyed believed that east Africa was the foremost destination for safari and ecotourism on the continent, with the Indian Ocean islands in second place with 19 per cent of the vote.
Ashiembi wa Ndukwem, marketing manager of Africa Point, said: "Many tourists are attracted to Kenya and Tanzania due to its beautiful natural attractions and abundance of exotic wildlife in its parks.
"The destinations are also relatively inexpensive to visit."
He added that travellers should look to book their trips as soon as possible to avoid missing out on their preferred accommodation for their holidays.
gap year travel insurance provider Halifax reported earlier this year that 41 per cent of women and 40 per cent of men considered a safari expedition to be their "dream" holiday.
